Jason B. Rice
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Rossview High School and a new academic year. This should be an exciting year and I look forward to helping your child develop an understanding of the past and how it is relevant today. Both the Ancient History and World History classes will be challenging; however, if students come ready to work and participate, they should gain knowledge of the past that will be helpful in furthering their education.
A member of the original faculty at Rossview, I have spent most of the last sixteen years teaching the college prep World History class as well as ten years teaching AP European History. During the 2012-2013 I took a break from the AP European History Class and started the Ancient History (Ancient Near East) course at Rossview, the only class of its kind in CMCSS. I have also taught AP and Honors United States History while on staff at Rossview as well as serving as Department Chair for Social Studies from 2007-2009. Prior to coming to Rossview I spent three years at Clarksville High School and one year at Stewart County High School.
A firm believer in the power of travel, I have been part of five trips abroad with Rossview students through ACIS (the American Council for International Studies). Most recently I served as group leader for 30 students that explored Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Rome, the Vatican, and Ostia. I have also traveled throughout Europe, North Africa and Israel, and Central America on my own and look forward to working with Rossview Latin Teacher Ryan Vinson in the future to help provide educational experiences for our students.
Before ending, I would like to give you some basic information about myself. Originally from New Albany, Indiana, I came to Clarksville via Austin Peay on an athletic scholarship (baseball) in 1993. During my time at Austin Peay I was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Male Scholar Athlete (1994). In 1995 I received my undergraduate degree in history (B.S.) and in 2000 my graduate degree in education (M.A.E.). This coming year will be my nineteenth as a teacher. My wife, the former Eve Darnell, and I have been married for eighteen years and have two sons, Bracken, age fourteen, and Cannon, age eleven, and our lab, Charlie. Again, I look forward to having your child in class and having an exciting year.
